Asuka had basically cleaned up the Women’s Division in NXT during her dominant run as NXT Women’s Champion. With no challenger at sight, Mickie James was given the call to return to WWE for the first time in 7 years and take on Asuka.
The two had a fantastic match-up, with James proving to be a big threat to Asuka’s NXT title reign. Despite this, Asuka was at her very best and she submitted Mickie James to retain her title. It was not long after that James was given the call to return full-time.
