After The Miz won the Intercontinental Championship, he successfully defended it against Cesaro at Payback thanks to interruption from Kevin Owens (who had just defeated Sami Zayn). One thing lead to another and Owens and Zayn found themselves involved in the title picture.
The Fatal-4-Way that ensued was an instant classic. In one of Cesaro’s finest performances to date, he was a part of a match that saw non-stop action from start to finish. Filled with exhilaration and excitement, the four had one of the best matches of 2016 (and 2016 in WWE was filled with several Match Of The Year contenders). The Miz managed to retain the Intercontinental title by the skin of his teeth. He may have won, but so did the fans.
