Rusev, through the years, has found himself become a fan favorite. Thanks to him breaking the chains of being a stereotypical foreign heel, fans were able to see a side of him that they never really got to see before on screen (unless you watch Total Divas, of course). While he used to portray a serious, no-nonsense Anti-Americal heel on WWE TV, the reality is that he’s a laidback, funny, witty and very likable guy.
His journey to the WWE wasn’t a conventional one. He immigrated to the United States in the mid-2000s to pursue his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. While he lived in Virginia first, he would move to California, where he received some special help. However, during his time in Virginia, he worked multiple jobs, such as being a painter (and he was supposedly so bad at it that his fellow-Bulgarians kicked him out), working at a Wendy’s Chain, a cab driver,etc. He even had to be on the streets for a while.
