Rusev was on a tear on the main roster and he would get a taste of championship gold around seven months later when he faced Sheamus. He took on The Celtic Warrior in a match that aired after RAW on the WWE Network and beat him for the title. It was quite surprising at the time that the title changed happened off TV, but nevertheless, it was something different.
It was nuclear heat for an Anti-American heel to hold the United States Championship. He would go on to hold the title for the next 146 days.
