WWE United Kingdom Championship
Dunne starts things off by bending the fingers of Wolfgang and a little ground and pound action. Dunne kicks him in the face until Wolfgang picks him up and drops him to the mat over and over again. He hits a splash into the corner and heads up top, only for Dunne to snap his fingers once again. He hops over the ropes and onto Wolfgang, smashing his face into the apron. Dunne gets a submission hold, but then a massive spear stops him in his tracks.
Wolfgang hits a beautiful senton from the inside and brings the champion in the ring for a moonsault. A two count for the big man and nearly a new champion is crowned. Dunne hits a release suplex, but the back and forth action continues with a stalling superplex from Wolfgang. He attempts a Swanton from the top, but Dunne locks in an armbar mid-air. A forearm, a kick and a spinning heel kick in succession cannot keep Wolfgang down. Dunne reverses Wolfgang and hits Bitter End to pick up a hard fought victory.
After, Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and Kylel O’Reily surround the champion and Dunne hits an elbow on Kyle. He gets kicked down, but the attention is turned to Wolfgang. Dunne escaped and teases helping Wolfgang, but only grabs his title. Trent Seven and Tyler Bate come and help their friend out, as the three heels leave through the crowd.
An excellent main event between Dunne and Wolfgang made this a memorable night with plenty of story development to look ahead. The United Kingdom Championship remains one of my favorite championships because the matches are booked so well and the action continues to deliver. They were given 12 minutes and used all of the 12 minutes to put on a hell of a fight that made both men look legit. Pete Dunne is extraordinary and Wolfgang opened my eyes wide. When you look at the 5-6 men from the United Kingdom Championship tournament that they have consistently, you understand why that Network special was so important. You can see all of these guys making a huge impact in NXT and then on the main roster someday.
As for Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly, I think that you can have them continue the assaults and lead up to either their first match at a Takeover or their first match as a Six Man Tag Team Main event against Bate, Seven and Wolfgang at a regular television taping. They are so good and so simplistic right now, not being overexposed and given too much at once.
