Isenberg Reacts: WWE Battleground “In a Prison of Poor Decisions”

Baffled at The Great Khali’s Return

Jinder Mahal retained the WWE Championship at WWE Battleground, thanks to the returning Great Khali. Here is what I liked and disliked about this match.

What I liked: Jinder Mahal works a strong offense and is a believable heel who can fight, but is still booked as an old school heel who needs as much help as possible. I also enjoy the bumps that the Singh Brothers take.

What I disliked: The match has a few nice spots, but this match is very odd. The whole thing about the doors opening for a short period of time was something that is very spotlighted. Jinder got out, but it took Randy 2 minutes after to climb the first prison cage? It was THAT simple. I also did not love how Randy was so slow at times trying to climb. It felt like it slowed everything down so much and the crowd was not completely connecting with this match.

Lastly, The Great Khali is not needed. It was a shocking moment to see him return, but he is older and not in the best of Shape. I do not want to see anymore of him, but an Indian stable seems to be the way they are going. I would almost give a new guy this role, someone that Jinder could mentor and bring under his wing. I am sure there are some guys in developmental that could have done the exact same things Khali can do. Smackdown has always been about younger guys getting a chance and proving themselves.

WWE Battleground and it’s poor booking decisions did NOBODY favors in a time that all hands should be on deck for SummerSlam.
