The Main Event Players
With Bobby Roode as NXT Champion, his next opponent has yet to be determined. The obvious options are two faces by the names of Kassius Ohno and Drew Galloway. While both men are gifted in the ring, they could not be more different in marketing value.
I will admit that I have been a huge supporter of Drew McIntyre since his first stint in WWE. He had the raw tools to be a star, but he had to leave WWE to learn more about himself and more about the business. He thrived and made his name bigger and brighter, much like a few others we have seen in the recent past. He looks gigantic in the ring with his 6 foot and 6 inch height and a similar body type to Randy Orton. He has more mass and more muscle to him, as well as being more phsyical (right now, at least.) He will get a shot at Roode, but might have to wait a little bit before that happens. Is he marketable? Absolutely.
Kassius Ohno seems to be the likely choice to face Bobby Roode next. While his physical appearance and his gimmick is quite confusing, there is no doubt that he is an excellent wrestler with a cult-like following. Ohno has thrived everywhere, except WWE and NXT. This is the right time for him, especially since you have seen WWE shy away from the “muscle men” and give world title reigns to guys like Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe. Ohno just needs to prove that he can consistently connect with the WWE Universe as a whole and not just the people that previously know him. Luckily, he can work on it and improve his gimmick. Is he an old school basketball player? Does he want to play for the toon squad? Is he a MonSTAR? I would just love WWE to explain what he has going on. Also, can we make sure he is not in skin tight clothing right now? It isn’t doing him any favors.
When you look at the roster, NXT always replenishes at this time. Whether they lose Neville, Bo Dallas, The Ascension or big stars like Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Bayley or Shinsuke Nakamura, Triple H seems to right the ship and find the right talent at the right time. This time should be no different.
