The Viper’s Odd Booking
While Kevin Owens thrived, as well as a main event (See below), Randy Orton was in the second segment of the night against Erick Rowan. While Bray is on WWE RAW, the chances he wins at WWE Payback are a big, fat ZERO. Not that I am not interested in seeing the match, but the next few weeks will be meaningless for Randy Orton. Instead of capitalizing on a lengthy feud with Wyatt, WWE shook things up to the point where Randy Orton is lost.
The new WWE Champion will wait a while until he finds out who will face him and start his next feud. Hell, where is Luke Harper at? This is a guy WWE Smackdown Live needs to invest in. He has proven time and time again how good he is in the ring, as well as his mic skills. I wonder why he was not involved in anything tonight or was not involved in moving to WWE RAW.
Erick Rowan vs Randy Orton… a match nobody wants to see.
AJ vs. Baron Corbin vs. Sami Zayn
So, we know that AJ Styles is still guaranteed a World Championship opportunity, but tonight he got himself a United States Championship opportunity against Kevin Owens. Confused? Yeah, me too.
I think WWE is going to give AJ Styles one hell of a summer, potentially pulling a Seth Rollins and holding each championship. With so many new talents, they have to reaffirm that Styles owns the show and is the man that can potentially pull this off. Tonight showcased the talents of Styles, Zayn and Corbin. All three men gave us one hell of a main event. Sami Zayn on WWE Smackdown Live is going to be better for him in the long run, but he will not become World Champion in 2017. There are too many names ahead of him and too many better personas than Zayn to get opportunities at the world title. There is no denying how good he is inside the ring and I hope Smackdown Live lets him grow more and make himself a future champion. The guy is too good and can help a lot of what Smackdown was lacking at the end of 2016. He brings consistency, great wrestling and strong potential. That can also be said for Baron Corbin, who I would love to get a chance to feud with Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens, Randy Orton and others. They have many options and a better combination of young and old.
