The Meaningless Parts
You are always going to have a few down segments in a three hour show. Well, I give that to Akira Tozawa, Brian Kendrick and Daivari. Tozawa picked up a win and called out Kendrick. Kendrick is still teaching him lessons, apparently.
Also, The New Day came out to talk about WrestleMania and ice cream. This was not the smartest idea, since Chicago’s own hero came up with the idea first and WWE RAW was live in Chicago. Nonetheless, they picked up a meaningless win over The Shining Stars. This is just a way to keep them wrestling and not forgotten heading into WrestleMania as our hosts.
Women’s Championship Debate
Bayley wants to fight Sasha Banks. Mick Foley wants that too, but Charlotte wants a fair shot. Stephanie McMahon comes out and says Charlotte is in the championship match, but Sasha has to earn hers by beating Bayley on WWE RAW tonight.
Banks whips Bayley into the corner. Bayley hops up to the top and hits Banks with a diving arm drag. Banks catches Bayley with a stiff chop to the chest. Banks walks the ropes and hits an arm drag of her own. Head scissor takeover by Banks. Bayley rolls to the outside. Banks attempts the double knees off the apron but Bayley moves out of the way. Bayley tries a baseball slide, but Banks moves out of the way. Bayley gets back in the ring and runs right into a clothesline by Banks.
After the break, Banks and Bayley trade multiple pin attempts. Banks hits the ropes and attempts a head scissor into the Banks Statement, but Bayley blocks it. Bayley forces Banks into the corner. Bayley waist locks Banks for the Bayley to Belly, but Banks hooks the ropes. Banks explodes out of the corner with a roaring elbow. Standing double knees by Banks for a two count. Bankes sends Bayley head first into the turnbuckle. Banks misses the corner double knees. Bayley goes up top and misses a diving splash. Banks locks in the Banks Statement. Bayley gets to the ropes. Banks hit a backstabber and locks in the Banks Statement again. Charlotte tries to interfere, but Banks kicks her away. Bayley taps out.
Sasha Banks earns her way into the championship match in a solid bout with Bayley. I did not love Bayley tapping out to her, but she is still the champion heading into WrestleMania. I still think it would be best for EVERYONE involved if Charlotte was the champion and still undefeated at Pay-Per-Views. That storyline was getting some great attention, only to have it taken away so abruptly. Why didn’t Stephanie also reverse the decision since Banks came out and it looked like she made contact with Flair? I was expecting this and would have helped considerably in the progression of Charlotte’s story heading into WrestleMania.
My only question is what happens with Nia Jax? Do they add her as well? Should they?
