Luke Gallows vs. Sheamus
For the second straight week, WWE gives us a length singles contest featuring one of the good brothers. Gallows took on Sheamus, as Cesaro and Karl Anderson were on commentary. I really enjoyed the old school, brawling, ground and pound action between both men. I also felt that Anderson and Cesaro on commentary enhanced the interest. Anderson kept referring to their success in Japan, which should not be overlooked. Especially with everyone talking about NJPW, utilize that more now and how much fans enjoy that product. It isn’t WCW, where it is direct competition. It is more honorable to work for New Japan and then come to WWE. Fans enjoy that cross promotion and discussion.
The match was strong for both men, showing how Gallows moves as a big guy. His fast strikes keeps his opponents on guard, but Sheamus used a distraction to hit a Brogue Kick for the win. Exchanging victories means that this will most likely be a championship match at the Royal Rumble. As much as I would enjoy seeing Gallows and Anderson win, I think it might be too soon in WWE’s minds to take the titles off of Sheamus and Cesaro.
The Undertaker’s Announcement
The Undertaker makes his way to the ring and then announces that he’ll be entering the Royal Rumble Match. Braun Strowman is watching on the monitor in the back. Undertaker answers to no one. He goes where he wants, when he wants. The Undertaker talks about the streak being broken right here in New Orleans and he is now on a journey to the Royal Rumble. He says he is going to dig 29 holes for 29 souls. He says he will return to the main event of WrestleMania.
Simple. Effective. The Undertaker. At this point in his career, there is no need for anything more than this when he talks about entering the Royal Rumble. Being in the Royal Rumble is something Undertaker should be doing more often. It is an easy match for him, working a few minutes and giving someone a shot to start a feud with him. I always enjoy big names in the Rumble match and this year is no different. The options for winners are all over the map right now, so I am definitely happy to see the Deadman enter. It gives another legit contender, instead of having some random jamokes fill spots.
