Sami Zayn vs. Jinder Mahal
Sami and Jinder start slow, with a head lock. Sami Zayn chops him in the chest and then gets dragged to the outside. Mahal hits a clothesline in the back and then punches him a few times. He hits an elbow and Sami gets tosses into the corner. Mahal hits another right hand and connects with a dropkick into the back. Sami reverses a move, hitting an exploder suplex and then a Helluva Kick for the win.
The match focused around the ankle injury from last week and the underdog gimmick continuing. There was no doubt Sami would win, but I did not mind this match, even though it was short, but good. Jinder showed more offense tonight than he did in the past 4 years he was in WWE. The booking of Sami Zayn confuses me, though. He goes from Kevin Owens to not appearing on a main PPV card since. He is too good in the ring and the crowd roots for him. There is no way he should not be a regular on the card.
The New Day and Bayley vs. Gallows, Anderson and Dana Brooke
Dana hits some chops and then throws Bayley to the mat. Bayley tries to pin Dana a few times and gets her into an arm bar. Dana hits her with a knee and then hits her into the turnbuckle. Bayley throws her into the turnbuckle a few times. Big E and Karl Anderson get into the ring and E hits a belly to belly. Kofi hits a running kick and then a two count. Big E hits a shoulder tackle, a Kofi kick and then another belly to belly. Luke Gallows hits a blow to the back and then Anderson with a nice kick to their back. Luke unloads punches a few times and then misses an elbow drop. Anderson and Kofi get into the ring and a flurry of offense from one half of the tag team champions. A clotheslines and then a boom drop. A unicorn stampede onto Anderson and the champions are dominating. Bayley hits a running dropkick onto Kofi and then Dana. We head to a commercial break.
Anderson is in control after the break. Kofi hits Luke Gallows, but then Anderson hits a monster spinebuster. Right hands and then his partner gets back into the ring. Gallows hits a dropkick into the corner and poses to the crowd. Anderson hits a few knee drops and a third is missed. Bayley gets the hot tag and goes off. A suplex and then a spinning elbow drop gets her a two count. All men get involved and each person hits a big move. In the ring, a Bayley to Belly for the win.
This was, by far, the best outing from these tag teams in a high profile match. Yes, there was no title on the line but WWE needed to stress the fact that both teams can really WORK. They had a simple and very effective story. Faces controlled the early parts with the heels controlling the middle of the match. With the involvement of Bayley and Dana Brooke, it spiced things up and made it more interesting to see how it would be booked to end. I loved how Anderson and Gallows cut the ring in half, which is old school booking in a tag team match. The ending was much to my delight, even though Gallows and Anderson need to get the upper hand sooner rather than later. Tonight was more about Bayley than the tag titles.
