Spud’s Personal Promo
Matt Hardy introduced Rockstar Spud and Spud talks about what he did to EC3 last week. He got over by bashing his hometown, talking about being in a dump of a town. He talks about being in a pool of his own blood this time last year from EC3 and that he is dedicating himself to the Matt Hardy Brand. He talks about getting rid of the cancer, but out comes EC3. He attacks Tyrus with a chair and gets hit from behind from Hardy. He clotheslines the champion and challenges Spud to a street fight later on tonight.
Intense promo and excellent delivery from Spud. A great night for Rockstar Spud to really stand on his own and deliver something that seems to be eating him up for a year. With their history, you can feel the intensity of his promo and feel that he truly means what he says. It is difficult to do that over and over again with someone you have SO much history with. EC3 and Spud is a great separation for the time being from Hardy. It gives us a new flavor, a new focus, all while remembering it is all circled back to The Matt Hardy Brand. Captivating stuff.
Monster’s Ball Match
I have a problem with the match, not necessarily Abyss vs. Jimmy Havock. There comes a time where you need to mix things up, do something different and not rely on big hardcore spots for a character. With The Decay really grabbing my attention, they also lose me whenever I see ANOTHER Monster’s Ball match. It is always going to be the same setup. You have weapons introduced, a possible tease of Janice and thumb tacks. I just want to see Abyss turn the corner and lead a faction in a different way. Yes, they can use hardcore elements, but there is no need for this gimmick match to appear as much as it does. Is it because Janice never hits? Yes. Is it because Abyss continues to be good, but not great? Yes. He has the ability, especially with two crazy characters next to him, to do something special. Special is what this needs to be, not common.
