A New World Heavyweight Champion
Not counting cash-ins from Money in the Bank, but it took WWE about 4 years to change the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on Raw. With Vince McMahon making a return to television, Roman Reigns had his moment. In a great back and forth match with Sheamus, Reigns was able to hit a Superman Punch on Vince and then Spear Sheamus for the win.
It was a wonderful moment and a telling ending to a night that will not soon be forgotten. Vince and Roman MADE THIS NIGHT. Yes, everything else was pretty entertaining too, but you can tell how important the night felt when you had something to look forward to at the end of the night. This may be WWE’s answer to the low ratings, whether you think this is good or bad. Let’s face it, this is not Goldberg beating Hogan on Nitro during the best ratings in wrestling history. Times have changed and WWE needed to do something different to get the world buzzing. This accomplished that and accomplished Roman Reigns’ spot at the top. What is next? Well, I see a rematch with Sheamus at Royal Rumble and then a Mister Brock Lesnar potentially entering and winning the Royal Rumble. I feel like the picture is getting clearer right now at the top.
WWE Raw was unpredictable and important tonight. With a wonderful Philadelphia crowd all night, this should remind you why wrestling can be great again. It has a long way to go, but WWE made Raw MUST WATCH until the very end.
Has the bar been lowered as of late? Maybe. But this was the best Raw of 2015.
