Becky Lynch defeated Paige
Paige controlled the match from the very beginning, with kicks and slow submission moves. Paige continued the attack with a snap suplex and then screamed to the crowd. As the match continued in the favor of Paige, Becky finally hit a few moves of her own and surprised Paige with grabbing her tights for the win.
A heel tactic for a face…. Interesting. Becky picks up a cheap win over Paige and Paige hits PTO on top of the commentator’s table. Aggression for Paige is EXACTLY what she needs. She needs to unleash hell when things do not go her way, like pulling this stunt out after the match.
Becky gets a check in the win column, but everyone is remembering Paige’s antics after the match. You MUST make Paige lose control and have that switch in her head shown through her actions. Good stuff from both women tonight.
Dolph Ziggler defeated The Miz
The battle of two Ohio kids take center stage in the UK. Dolph Ziggler was grounded for most of this match, as The Miz worked on his leg throughout. With kicks and submission holds, Miz applied more pressure on Dolph’s weakened limb. It made Dolph limited in his offensive attack, so he resorted to rolling up Miz multiple times, hit a Superkick and pick up the win to move to the second round.
I did not mind this match, but it is the third predictable match of the night. If you are going to have 16 guys in a tournament, make sure you have believable guys match up so the fans aren’t positive who will win. There is just very little drama in the first hour of Raw. Good wrestling but boring entertainment and very little dramatic elements.
