Taking all that into account, if you do decide to do a table spot like that, why weren’t the monitors taken out? More importantly, why hasn’t WWE updated its equipment on the announce tables with small LED monitors instead of the same ones they have used for the past 20 years which are large, heavy and dangerous? If you listened to my radio show live last night then you’ll know that this was a hotly discussed topic. All this highlights that WWE really should be evaluating these things to ensure a safe working environment for its talent.
Now with that being said, if the injury was purely caused by the power bomb into the corner or another factor from the match then that will just have to go down as an unfortunate injury which is hard to avoid but I’m still concerned that Sting was either told to do all this or that he felt he needed to do all this.
Sting is an absolute legend. He has nothing to prove to anyone. He had a match in the main event of a PPV and completely looked like he deserved to be there. Nobody would argue the effort and hard work he put into that match. I am extremely grateful that Sting was able to and felt the need to go to such long lengths to prove to people (which he didn’t need to do) that he could still hang with the top talent of today.
This match also made me realise how much more the match with Triple H at WrestleMania 31 could have been if they kept out all the outside interference. Yes I know everyone loved the nostalgic returns of the nWo and D-Generation X but Sting and Triple H were more than capable of having a war which would have made more sense to me than something which felt like Vince having a final poke at WCW.
After the events of the past week, we don’t know if Sting will ever compete again. If that’s the case, it’ll be a shame as there is the potential dream match between Sting and Undertaker which looks more possible now that Brock Lesnar and Undertaker seem to be finishing their feud at Hell in a Cell.
Either way, nothing will take away from the career that Sting has had and here’s hoping he’ll be able to step in to the ring again.
