WCW, to be honest, I don’t remember one damn thing. Whether it was Christmas, Hanukah, or even the glorious Festivus, I was absolutely miserable. I just couldn’t stand being around that place. You could have hung mistletoe over me and Torrie Wilson and it still wouldn’t have mattered. The place was absolutely a home for the tormented souls.
TNA? Now TNA was a lot of fun at the time. For starters, since we were smaller than WWE, the company was a lot tighter. I do, to this day, still consider myself friends with many of the TNA talent. But man, even more joyous than that – every year, the good people at Universal Studios in Orlando would cater us a Holiday Desert Extravaganza, with some of the most magnificent sweets that I have ever experienced in my life. The buffet of pure sugar, chocolate and whipped cream was just something that I seriously looked forward to for the rest of the year.
The only time that TNA Christmas had the shadow of Scrooge himself shone upon it, was the first year that Eric Bischoff came aboard, and after days of blowing Ed and I off, he finally decided that he wanted to have a “Meetings to Go” gathering…ON CHRISTMAS EVE! To this day, I have never seen the gentle Ed Ferrara so hot. Ed cut a promo that yours truly wasn’t even capable of!
And, then, it all goes back to where it started . . . Dixie Carter. Every year, despite how well – or not so well – the company had done that fiscal year, Dixie always handed out bonuses that the company probably couldn’t really afford. But that was Dixie, and that’s why she’ll always have a special place in my heart . . . no matter HOW FREAKIN’ HOT I get at her at times!
Man, looking back at those times now . . . they were all really special. Just knowing that they will never be again really makes you understand how lucky you were to be there even though you may have loathed it at times . . . and, God knows that I did.
Happy Holidays, everyone. Until next week.
