Degeneration X vs. Mr. McMahon, Shane McMahon & Big Show
Unforgiven ’06
Putting DX inside the Cell against Vince McMahon just seems like an inevitability. One of those things in wrestling history that needed to happen at some point. Adding Shane McMahon to just about anything increases my desire to watch it; that guy was born to be an ECW fan. Maybe Big Show doesn’t exactly scream “money” like he used to, but they needed some legitimacy on Team McMahon to sell the idea of Hell in a Cell being anything but a one-sided beating.
While I wouldn’t necessarily call this one a classic, it was a decent example of how to appropriately blend comedy with violence; something pro wrestling, and specially WWE, fails at nine times out of ten. The extreme spots – like Shane O’Mac going coast to coast with a trash can – felt right at home with moments like DX shoving Vince’s face into the Giant’s rear end. I’m not saying they painted a masterpiece, just that I fully expected this one to be in the “worst” column given how poor the DX shenanigans became later on, and being “just OK” lands them a spot in the middle of our list.
