Wrestlezone’s Top 10: WWE SummerSlam Matches; Where Does Bret vs. Owen, Triple Threat TLC & CM Punk Rank on the List?

#4 – John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan

SummerSlam 2013
Los Angeles, CA

The most recent entry to make this list, John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan provided us with the first main event SummerSlam classic in quite a few years, with the last truly great gem (of the ones that made this list, anyways) dating all the way back to 2008. Infamously, many people will remember this as the night The Authority was born, with Randy Orton cashing in Money in the Bank, Triple H turning on the newly crowned WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, and a stretch of truly frustrating PPV matches beginning.

I choose to remember this as the night Daniel Bryan defeated John Cena in the main event of the 2nd biggest PPV of the year – clean – to become the WWE Champion, and the face of the biggest wrestling company on the planet. Sure, his time in the spotlight lasted all of five minutes, but it also kickstarted a revolution that took itself to WrestleMania XXX, where Bryan would go on to defeat Triple H in an outstanding match, and steal the show yet a second time to capture the now unified WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
