And it’s not even close. If you’re a wrestling fan and you disagree that Bret vs. Owen is the greatest match in SummerSlam history – with all due respect – but you’re just wrong. Not only is this the eternal highlight of wrestling’s summer classic, but it’s also just one of the best matches in WWE’s long history.
This was the culmination of a feud that spanned an entire year, starting with a simple miscommunication at the 1993 Survivor Series PPV. There was a fallout, there was a reunion, there was a failed tag team championship opportunity – the two even put on a classic at WrestleMania X. This was Owen vs. Bret inside a steel cage, with the entire Hart family at ringside, in Chicago, IL during the height of the Chicago Bulls NBA insanity. It doesn’t get much better than this, ladies and gentlemen.
