#2 – Paul Heyman's Client Brock Lesnar
Defeated the Undertaker's Undefeated Streak
at WrestleMania 30
Moments like this one don't come around very often – in fact, I'd say this one was truly in a class of its own. As the referee brought his hand down that final time, completely what will surely go down as the most infamous three-count in wrestling history, you could almost hear the air being let out of the Superdome. Normally WrestleMania is filled with celebration – friends drinking beer, consuming pizza by the box, and fist-bumping for their favorite Superstars. This year, two hours and fifty-two minutes into the PPV, the party stopped.
Paul Heyman's reaction echoed every fan around the world. Maybe we weren't nearly as excited, but the expression on his face as Lesnar won and the realization sinking in – either it was genuine shock, or he's just that damn good.
To write this segment up, I went back and watched it happen. Between my first viewing and all the replays on Raw and Smackdown, I must have seen it two dozen times. I laughed at myself when, as Michael Cole proclaimed "the streak…is over", I found my hand over my mouth, and a feeling of genuine surprise somewhere inside. I'VE SEEN IT TWO DOZEN TIMES!!
The Undertaker's streak coming to an end is the biggest moment of 2014 so far. I'd say it was probably the biggest moment since CM Punk defeated John Cena at Money in the Bank 2011. Even that might have been eclipsed by the enormity of a 21-year undefeated record – even a "fake" record comprised of "fake" fights – ending on the grandest stage of grandest stages.
Could there have been a bigger, more important moment in 2014? Unfortunately…yes.
