#2 – WCW Monday Nitro
Somewhat ironically, ten years after Vince McMahon plundered talent from the NWA and AWA, Eric Bischoff did the exact same thing with Ted Turner's millions. Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and many, many more all ended up jumping ship to find success in the rising star that was WCW. Of course, it took them a long time to get off the ground, with a terrible year in 1993 and a lot of creative frustrations. But once they found their rythm, right around the time Nitro picked up in the ratings, WCW would work up a storm that almost drove the WWE out of business.
The WWE Network will play host to a show called Monday Night Wars in the near future. As expected, it will be a weekly look back at the ratings war between Vince McMahon's Raw and Ted Turner's Nitro. As you can see, they are working hard to update their Raw library, adding new episodes every week. But Nitro is nowhere to be seen….yet.
Recently it was reported that WWE was looking to add Nitro to the collection by the end of 2014. My money is on SummerSlam as a target. At that point, they will need a huge drawing point to bring in new subscriptions, and to hook the 600,000 people who have already paid out. The entire Nitro collection, and the start of the Monday Night Wars series is a very good selling point.
But you know what I'd like more…?
