"The Benchmark" Bill Daley comes out in a suit for his Top Prospects match and says that he will not be competing tonight as he's suffered a high ankle sprain. Mike Posey says that Cory Hollis doesn't want to win by forfeit, and asks him if he wants to have a tournament match against him. So it looks like we're going to have a match anyways…
Cory Hollis vs. Mike Posey
Mike Posey is a former WWE and TNA referee, and I believe these two were, or potentially still are tag team partners. Another quick match here, this one a lot more fast-paced and high flying than the last. Posey hit a nice looking leg drop off the top rope, but ends up getting caught with a rolling elbow by Hollis which puts the match away. These two definitely benefited from knowing each other, and working together, as they put on a decent contest that's good exposure for both relatively unknown guys. Nothing too incredible or special, but hey, they got on television and I'll be interested to see Hollis' match in the second round.
We get a replay from "Pursuit Night 2" where C&C Wrestle Factory lost to ReDRagon in a tag title match. After that match, Coleman and Alexander amicably split up to focus on their singles careers.
Jay Lethal vs. Caprice Coleman
A very solid match that again seperated itself from two before it, and had a nice little story attached to it. This was Coleman's first big singles match since the C&C breakup. While I was original back and forth on whether he should have gone over, Lethal is in line for a TV title shot in the coming weeks, and asa veteran of the sport I think the 'W' went to the right guy. Plus, with how hard both of these wrestlers worked, the story – as Kevin Kelly would mention – is that Coleman has a bright future ahead of him, but his path won't be easy. The match itself was a lot of fun, built up early on grappling and chain counters, which is personally my favorite style of wrestling. CC does this great spot where he floats through a trio of Northern Lights suplexes that comes off looking like a million bucks. Good stuff from these two.
After the match, Lethal announces that he has accepted a challenge from Tommaso Ciampa that would see them compete for the TV Championship, and says that he will be doing commentary next week for the champion's match.
