RVD vs ADR – One Step Down
I know I've stated my RVD case before, and I don't mean to continue harping on him, but I have no interest in this feud between him and the current World Heavyweight Champion.
I attribute some of that to Del Rio as well, even though I think his character is better now than it's ever been. He's just had a rough road creatively getting there, and he's hardly an exciting champion.
Del Rio + Ricardo made sense. I was fine with them parting ways, but throwing Ricardo with RVD seemed desperate. It's not clicking for me.
Rob Van Dam doesn't need help getting over. Ricardo's role with anyone should be to help with that very thing, and it was for ADR, but why then is he with RVD? It just feels awkward.
Part of the problem is the lack of verbal progression we're getting with the program. Del Rio's not a bad talker, but there's the language barrier that seems to make him unrelatable. RVD, despite what he claims, isn't the most effective talker either. Ricardo can talk, but his character is meant to be funny and light-hearted; he can't really deliver those strong, ppv-selling promos when they're needed most.
The matches should be above average with these two men, but that's about the best we'll get out of this feud. I can't imagine that, at any point, I'll actually start to "care" about why they're actually wrestling.
