CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar has been pitted "The Best vs. The Beast." There was not much more that WWE could do to build this match. I knew that CM Punk would not actually fight Paul Heyman. That is a match that could easily be a PPV match due to the storyline and personal feud they are having. Instead, Punk gets the upper hand by hitting Lesnar in the head with a camera. Paul Heyman was able to escape and Curtis Axel was a pawn by taking a GTS.
Paul Heyman could not do anything to add to the match tonight. I have always been a fan of his promos because he is real and is arguably the best mouthpiece in the WWE. Brock Lesnar needed to look vulnerable. CM Punk needed to look like he could slay the beast. That is how WWE ended. It may be predictable, but it was the only thing WWE needed to do. I am extremely excited to see this match. The story is there and the personal connection is there. It will all come to ahead on Sunday. Buckle up.
Grade: B
John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan is exactly what the WWE needs right now. Daniel Bryan is breaking the mold of how the prototypical champion is viewed. With all of the differences between these two guys, this should be an excellent match. Cena will be able to work with Bryan because Bryan can work with anyone. I am not going to bash Cena because it takes two guys to tango in that ring. The promo tonight on MizTV was fantastic. It was compelling and broke that line that is rarely crossed. Daniel Bryan talks about being a wrestler and John Cena is not. You can tell that SO MANY wrestlers think this backstage. This felt real, felt intense, and felt like WWE wanted to throw it out there. Cena yells back at Daniel Bryan and then he slaps him in the face. It was PERFECT. Let Cena be somewhat of the heel here because they know he is going to get booed. Cena needs to be cocky and have that edge to him. Bryan needs to be the underdog. There is going to be a big step in a greater picture after SummerSlam with Triple H as referee. I see a cash in and see Vince coming out to witness it. This should be interesting to say the least. There are so many added pieces besides just the match.
