The Main Event
Christian defeated Randy Orton and Rob Van Dam to become the Number One Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. The match was outstanding. I give all the credit in the world to all three guys. First off, Orton and Rob Van Dam were so damn good with one another. RVD hit a super insane 5 Star Frog Splash onto Christian. As the match progressed, Rob Van Dam went for Rolling Thunder but was caught with a suplex from Orton. He follows up with a dropkick to RVD and tries to hit a DDT. Instead, the match picks up even faster with an RKO to RVD and Christian rolling up Orton for the win. I am not sold on the idea of Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio. I do think WWE can still add one or two more guys to the match because they have so much talent with nothing to do at Summerslam. Rob Van Dam needs to be in the WHC match in two weeks. Christian vs. Del Rio will lack a really interesting story, but you will get excellent old school wrestling mixed with the athleticism and creativity. Del Rio would end the night attacking Christian. For what it is worth, it was pretty good. Do I buy Christian and Del Rio at Summerslam? No, but that is not what this championship is about anymore. This title, unfortunately, is meant to fill the card and nothing else.
Grade: A-
Smackdown gave us:
1. Damien/Cody continuation of their feud, which needs to culminate at Summerslam for the briefcase.
2. CM Punk and Fandango putting on a great match that still made Punk look somewhat weak with the defensive struggles he had.
3. Christian vs. Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship at Summerslam. Didn't WWE give us this match for free on Raw?
