WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Winner: Alberto del Rio via DQ
Rating: ****
Dolph Ziggler is finally over. Not just with the internet marks, but with a global WWE audience. And what's better, he did it as a babyface. In this day and age, you have to be damn good to get the kind of reaction that Ziggler got from Philly. It's an achievement really.
AJ Lee had her hand in that. So did Alberto del Rio, who has proven he can play the face and the heel, but is much better at drawing heat with or without his partner in crime, Ricardo Rodriguez. He's got that snobby foreign thing about that's just so easy to hate. It's appears to not even be a part of some front or character that he portrays; he's a natural bad guy, and that should be exploited.
While the match was consistent with both Ziggler and del Rio's ring work, the DQ finish kind of killed some of their momentum. The story aspect was there, and I think they ultimately made the right call, but after Sandow turning on Rhodes, Ryback winning via roll-up and Curtis Axel retaining, I kind of wanted to see a nice, clean decision for the good guy. Obviously, that's not in the best interest of the story, or really anyone involved, but it's hard not to feel a little disappointed by the outcome of a great match like that. Really, that's the point. People aren't supposed to look at stories in terms of what's good and bad for the business; we're supposed to be frustrated by a screwy finish. We are supposed to get mad at AJ, and cheer Dolph when he inevitably drops her.
