Heyman Wants Title Unification
Paul Heyman on his idea WrestleMania main event: “I think the main event for WrestleMania 30 should be a battle for the WWE Championship against the World Heavyweight Championship, to unify the titles.”
I knew he was smart, so this doesn’t surprise me, but I wish the powers-that-be would finally listen.
I think title unification for the top two titles is long overdue. The brand split is practically over, so they might as well go all the way.
It’s impossible for WWE Management to view two “world” titles equally, and just the same, it’s impossible for fans to view them equally. No other sport allows for two champions, and while I know wrestling is scripted, it still acts as an actual sport. I guess when it suits them, that is.
Some call the World Heavyweight Championship the new IC title — a stepping stone to the REAL thing in the WWE Title. I can see why the comparison is made, but doesn’t that render the IC Title obsolete as a result? What’s the point of it?
“They should get rid of the IC title then, Chris!” I disagree. It has much more WWE(F) significance and meaning historically.
Titles might ultimately be props as Vince Russo has always been known to say, but they are still required. They still make the stories complete. Without them, it’s all pointless.
If that’s true, why wouldn’t you want them to mean everything they possibly can? Splitting the juice between two titles just doesn’t seem to make much business sense. Not anymore, at least.
