#1. Raw Tonight – Punk & Heyman Begins
The NFL season is underway and if you're a pro football fan, you're excited. There's a ton of umbrella storylines this year and it's going to be great to watch each unfold. Replacement refs, five rookie starting QB's (the most in over 60 years), Peyton Manning vs Andrew Luck, Luck vs RGIII, Bountygate, and more…they all guarantee a promising and eventful NFL season.
Meanwhile, back at the wrestling ranch…
There's a sense of excitement going into tonight's Raw, just the same. There's at least one major storyline developing and it's can't-miss. Luckily, in pro wrestling, one is all you need.
Punk and Heyman got the fire lit last week. Fans are intrigued, but nothing more. It's not over by a long shot. The work is just beginning. Tonight is critical, as will next week be. WWE, Punk, Heyman, Cena…they all have to deliver tonight in a major way.
Vince sees the ratings slipping. He knows something has to be done. He's also aware that the problems created by three hours every week can be overcome with that one big story. He just hasn't been willing to pull the trigger on it. FOR YEARS, he hasn't pulled the trigger on it.
It's time to pull the trigger, Vince.
You have the pieces necessary in CM Punk and John Cena. Heyman is just a bonus, but a welcomed one. You also know that you have Brock in your back pocket, and The Rock just around the corner. Oh, and that thing called WrestleMania will be here before ya know it.
All the pieces are there and last week was a great start. It's all up to Vince on where he wants to take it, and how far. I hope he decides "all the way". We haven't had that in a long time.
And much like people say about Tony Romo (people that are wrong, mind you, but people just the same), I'll say about Vince McMahon — his window is closing. It's about time to put up or shut up. It's the Super Bowl or fail.
