I have a theory!
I think Kevin Nash's arrogance rubs some of your arrogance the wrong way. If his tongue weren't so sharp in his beliefs, and he took the route of humility and appreciation, at least in public, I feel most of you would change your tune. Not all of you, but most.
I also believe that members of our community (myself included), from time to time, get too "smart" for our own good. We start to forget what absolutely and truly draws in this business. We can't remember what we LOVED about wrestling as a kid due to what we read online now as a young adult or older.
I'm pretty sure I didn't care that Hogan wasn't the best "technician" around back then; I was a Hulkamaniac.
Look at today's "internet darlings" — Punk, Daniel Bryan, Ziggler, RHODES — and it's easy to understand why guys like Hogan and Nash are persecuted. As a result, GOD FORBID someone like Nash to talk bad about someone like Eddie Guerrero! "Nash didn't have half the talent the late, great Eddie did!" And you're right, unless the talent you speak of is getting to the top of your profession and getting paid for it.
Talent can only take you so far in a fake sport.
The business certainly didn't end when Benoit and Guerrero hugged in the middle of the ring at WrestleMania XX, as Nash suggests, but that's not even the point being argued anymore. Rather, one man is front and center with your eyes on him.
That might not have been your point, but it's always Nash's point.
And I guess that's my point…
You don't have to agree with Kevin. You don't have to accept the things he says. You don't even have to respect him. But the reaction to the GrantLand piece proves that Nash still possesses what it takes to get over in pro wrestling. Surely, you can't deny THAT.
