Number 2: WrestleMania XI
The worst WrestleMania main event occurred here. Lawrence Taylor would face off against Bam Bam Bigelow. I am completely biased as a wrestling fan to say that “wrestlers” should main event WrestleMania, not football players. Vince was so caught up in trying to cross into mainstream professional sports that he wanted to market his “Super Bowl” with an NFL player. I absolutely hated this, hated the crowd, and thought the card was destined to be good until they executed the matches poorly. Shawn vs. Diesel had the personal conflicts, but it did not come off as a great match. It was easily forgettable, along with Owen Hart and Yokozuna beating The Smoking Gunns. Why did Bret Hart and Bob Backlund only get 9 minutes to work? Two of the best techincal wrestlers definitely deserved more time in the ring. The event had 7 matches, 2 few in my mind. I know I will get bashed for putting this at number 2, but I got nothing great out of this. It was a combination of lazy booking relying on NFL players and not what they produced. It lacked “Superstar Power,” something that every other WrestleMania has had.
