The Cutting Edge with Mark Henry and Randy Orton Review:

Edge talks about the importance of championships. He then brings out Mark Henry, followed by Randy Orton. Edge begins to talk, and says it is a good thing for Orton that there is a no contact policy on The Cutting Edge tonight. Edge goes on to say what Henry has done in the past few months. Edge asks Orton if he honestly thinks he can beat Henry on Sunday. Orton talks about how he demolished Kane and Big Show, but Orton says he only fights Orton when his match is over. Orton tells Henry he has not proven a thing yet, and that is why he has never won the big match in the WWE. Orton says Henry’s best is not good enough. Orton says he knows he can beat Henry Sunday. Edge says Randy has a point, and calls Henry’s career disappointing. Edge talks about Henry not winning the WWE or World Heavyweight Championship, and it is shocking because of his physical attributes. Edge says he thinks it is because Henry does not have the desire to win the title, and feels Henry does not have what it takes to get to the next level. Henry gets on the microphone, and says the only reason he is going to let Edge leave the ring on his own power is because he is right. Henry says in fifteen years, he has seen smaller and weaker men win championships, but not him. They told Henry that he should go out and smile, show that personality. Now, Henry says he is done smiling, showing personality, and he wants to destroy and take what Orton has. Come Sunday, Henry proclaims he will be the World Heavyweight Champion. Orton says their match will be symbolic, because he may come close, but it will be Henry being 400 pounds, 15 years, World’s Strongest Failure. Edge interrupts and reminds you there is no physical contact during The Cutting Edge, and that it is over. Orton punches away at orton, and the Smackdown roster tries to separate them. Henry throws them all off and attacks Orton. Orton fights through them and knocks down Henry. Orton goes after Henry again, but Henry hits the World’s Strongest Slam. He clears the ring of the Smackdown Superstars, and hits a huge splash onto Orton. Henry hits a second World’s Strongest Slam onto Orton, and be fights the rest of the locker room. He hits a third slam, and poses with the World Heavyweight Championship as Smackdown closes.

Reaction:

The world got to see how much they are building Mark Henry. Love it or hate it, you have to wonder if Orton will drop the title on Sunday. On Chair Shot Reality, I said I thought Orton would win, but Henry has a legit shot at winning. I really do think they could let Henry win, but I still feel that the finish is going to be controversial. Henry and Orton are two different stars, as one relies on Power alone, and the other is a more complex and complete wrestler. I loved how real it felt when they talked about the career of Henry, because everyone knows that it is true. Henry was calm and quiet, but got his point across with his actions. I like the ending, as that is how you finish a show. You highlight your biggest feud with an altercation that was different than on Raw. In two polar opposite ways, Raw and Smackdown’s go home show did what it needed to, as it got the viewer wanting to buy Night of Champions. This segment, along with the entire show, gets a B. I was excited to see the beginning of Smackdown with Rhodes and DiBiase, as they needed some exposure. The in ring matches were not amazing, but it did enough to contribute to story building for an episodic television show. I enjoyed the tag match, as well as seeing a complete different Cara match. We will see what happens Sunday night. Check out Chair Shot Reality for my Night of Champions predicitions on Sunday.
