Samoa Joe & Matt Morgan
Taking Each Other Up
Impact Wrestling was very good this week. From top to bottom, I enjoyed just about everything. It was simple, it made sense, and it was entertaining. Two superstars specifically stood out for me and it took them working together to make it happen.
Samoa Joe and Matt Morgan are both men that arguably should be further along in the company than they are. Each have been there long enough, they've had plenty of opportunities, and from what I've heard, each have had major support from those that matter at some point or another.
Joe has made it to the top of the TNA ladder before, but in the past couple years, they've struggled to find him a permanent place on tv. He's gone back and forth with his character, taken time off on a couple of different occasions and has failed to make any major impact (no pun intended) of any kind.
Matt Morgan came over to TNA from a failed experiment with WWE as a studdering giant. Jim Cornette was very high on Morgan and at the time, carried a little weight with the company that should have fared well for Morgan. The overall thought behind the scenes at TNA was that they acquired a 7' giant with a good look and build that could actually talk. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Morgan on the mic, but there's no denying that he looks like a star and can back it up in the ring. Outside of holding the TNA Tag Team championships on his own, which I thought was very entertaining and pulled off well, I don't believe you can say Morgan's time in TNA has been overwhelming by any stretch. He fits..and that's about it.
Coming off his recent injury that sidelined him for a few months, Matt Morgan needed a quality guy to work with and I think they found it in Samoa Joe. They compliment each other very well. This fued is new, but it already feels seasoned with intensity and attitude.
Both men are out of the Bound for Glory tournament, so put them together with a good backstory and see how it fits. So far, so good and it's only the beginning. Both men have already taken the other a step up this week and at the end of their program, I truly feel both men "should" benefit greatly as they try to find their ways back into the heavyweight title picture.
