Randy Orton vs. Christian in a Steel Cage for the World Heavyweight Championship Review:
The match starts with Christian trying to escape, but Orton stops him and begins to kick him when he is down. Christian begins to beat down on Orton, but Orton hits a body slam and stomps away at the body of Christian. Christian tries to escape but is grabbed and thrown down by Orton. A two count and the match continues. Orton hits Christian with a superplex off the top turnbuckle. Christian reverses a DDT, and hits a frog splash onto Orton. He gets a two count and looks frustrated. He crawls to the door and Orton grabs his leg to drag him in. Both men exchange offensive moves, as Christian tries to escape time after time. Both men battle on the top of the cage, and orton bangs the head of Christian on the steel. Orton hits a thunderous RKO from the top rope, and retains his World Heavyweight Championship. Mark Henry comes out and beats down Randy Orton, slamming his face into the cage. He hits a powerful clothesline, followed by a body splash, and hits the World's Strongest Slam. Henry stands tall as Smackdown goes off the air.
Reaction:
This was the way to end Smackdown live. A match that featured two of the best workers in the business. Christian and Orton work so perfectly together, two who know their craft and who have the ability to adapt in any atmosphere. Not much to say about this match besides an A+ effort in a spectacular main event. They did the right thing having Henry dominate Orton after the match because it shows the power and strength Henry has, without Orton being useless due to his fatigue in the main event. Henry, like it or not, is really progressing in this storyline and given the opportunity of succeeding. I am not the biggest Henry supporter, but he is keeping it interesting to me.
Overall Reaction:
Super Smackdown Live delivered a few things. It delivered a few great matches from different types of superstars. You saw the strength in mid carders like Daniel Bryan and Sin Cara, even though I do not agree with the finish. You saw the conclusion to some of the best matches on Pay Per View we have seen the past five months, saying goodbye to Orton vs. Christian. You also got to see a contract signing that was different than the typical brawl afterwards. You did not see a few things: Cody Rhodes, who NEEDS to be on Smackdown each week. We also did not see a competitor for the Tag Titles to compete with Air Boom, who will be defending it in 3 weeks against who? I say the Uso's need that shot. We did not see John Cena in a meaningful piece of the show, as well as Ezekiel Jackson or any of the regulars on Smackdown. I realize the brand extension could be winding down, but you still put a lot of stock into some of the younger guys, but instead, you give Khali time, you give Wade Barrett a meaningless match where he gets squashed, and you get a watered down few segments backstage that did not progress any storylines heading into Night of Champions, which is less than three weeks away. Build the title matches, because we do not know who will be facing for the IC Title, the US Title, the Tag Team Titles, and the Divas Championship. Overall, Super Smackdown gets a B- because aside from some of the flaws, you got two great matches, and got to see the progression of Nash, H, and Punk.
