Despite that he is still on the active roster and not yet in the HOF, The Undertaker has legend status. If he gets beat, usually its because someone has cheated. He has an untouchable and almost unbeatable ora around him. The demon from Death Valley has put guys over in the past, but those times are few and far between. His character is super natural, his legacy is constantly praised, having his shoulders pinned to the mat off of a legitimate finish from his opponent is not something that can easily be done.
The times when you could get away with having him beat was when he was with just another star on the roster working 300 shows a year. When he was a heel and you wanted to see him beat, it worked. These days, he is in a category of his own, he never can and never will be a heel again.
With all of that being said, I think we will see The Undertaker hang it up first. It is hard to picture how this would be done. I don’t think he will ever lose at the biggest event of the year. If anyone ever does get to beat him at WrestleMania, that would be perhaps the biggest push a superstar could ever get. But who is worthy of that? Is that person on the roster right now?
Wouldn’t it be interesting if Undertaker accepts the challenge but tells HBK that the stakes should be higher, and declare that this years WrestleMania be a retirement match? What a finish that would be to have to come up with.
One thing that is for sure is HBK and Undertaker are going to leave whenever they each are ready, and that is the way it should be.
