Best Independent Wrestler of the Year: Bryan Danielson
There were a lot of standout indy workers this year, but overall I think Bryan Danielson edge’s them all out as he not only had a great year wrestling wise, but he scored a contract with WWE and should be taking that deserved step up to the “big leagues” anytime now. I’m surprised that Nigel McGuinness didn’t make the reader list as he had a very successful year independently, and of course made a very impressive jump to TNA. But in the case of Danielson, he certainly made the most impact on the indy scene this year for me, with some of his final Ring of Honor matches being not only tremendous wrestling bouts, but very emotional and heartfelt performances as well. I can’t wait for this young star to make his TV debut so that he has a chance to showcase his skills to a larger audience.
