Best TNA Match of the Year: Ultimate X at Bound For Glory

The interesting thing is that I generally am not a huge fan of these types of bouts. Sure, they’re fun, but they’re generally just nonsensical spot fests, and the action is generally too scattered and focus is usually lacking. Additionally, these matches tend to be simply thrown together, and all the X-Division stars are just tossed into the bout with little meaning behind it. However, the Ultimate X match was a huge exception to the rule this year at Bound For Glory. There was some amazing technical work in this bout, and The Motor City Machineguns utilized some of their most unique offense to date. Add to that Amazing Red’s insane Hurricanrana on Daniels off the top rope, and this match was definitely the most exciting X-Division bout of the year, and was the best wrestled match on TV that I saw from TNA in 2009. I struggled between this match and Angle vs Wolfe’s first bout, but in the end I think the Ultimate X Match wins out because it combined great technical wrestling with really athletic aerial work.
