Well that’s about all for this week…
…wait I forgot, that main event segment that has everybody talking. You know, where the NXT Season 1 Rookies came to the ring, destroyed everything around them, and beat the hell out of everyone from Justin Roberts to John Cena? This was the best beatdown, let alone ending, on RAW in a very long time. It kept all of the NXT Rookies in the spotlight and it has everybody guessing where this will go. Barrett had a promo earlier in the night saying he would do something that has never been done before on RAW, but no one saw this one coming. When I saw Tarver in the crowd and recognized him, I actually said “Holy S**t, this is awesome” and had to remind myself to keep writing the RAW PBP.
I like Barrett and I am glad the rest of the Season 1 guys aren’t being sent right back to FCW. Everyone knows Bryan Danielson will be a star, but uniting the rest of the guys helps them get over by taking out Cena. It was what this week’s RAW, and wrestling in general, has been lacking; a genuine surprise.
The other thing this attack does is allows the introduction of a faction. Yes, a faction that has been sorely missed in wrestling for a while now. SES is Punk and Gallows, and Serena who doesn’t wrestle so they don’t count, and TNA had the Main Event Mafia recently, but that sucked. The idea of the rookies getting together the way they did has this nWo/Evolution feel to it, and it makes sense for them. Barrett is the leader since he won, and Bryan is the number two. The rest can fall in line and act for the group, because NXT is over for them, but their WWE dreams aren’t. This is a way to build new stars and throw them into the spotlight quickly, and it will probably keep the fans happy. It will be a success if they keep the group together and don’t bury them with another Cena miracle retaliation. I feel like they want to hotshot Barrett into the title match in Orton’s place, and this is a good way to prepare. No matter what happens there is a nice buzz and this helped (slightly) redeem an otherwise crappy show.
