EXCLUSIVE: A Complete Breakdown Of WWE SummerSlam

The Straight Edge Society vs Big Show

Big Show isn’t alien to this sort of match, and it played out rather predictably – but that isn’t always a bad thing. It suffered by what came before it, as it would’ve acted as a nice consolidation match had we have had a stronger card preceding it. It served it’s purpose, and pushes the feud going forward. But this didn’t do much to pick up what had been a sluggish show up to this point.

The Miz promo

This showcased The Miz at his very best on the microphone. Solid writing and perfect execution had me hanging off his every word. It served its purpose announcing his intentions to join the team, and was probably the best part of the night up to now (I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether that’s a good thing or not).

Sheamus vs Randy Orton – WWE Title

When was the last time a WWE Championship match started before the halfway mark in a PPV? Anyway, this was a very good match. Not that Orton and Sheamus are 5-star match material, but they put on a good show and told a good story. That being said, another lousy ending. Sure it made sense from a booking perspective, but as with all DQ’s, neither man looks strong. Sheamus needs a strong win to give him extra credibility, his two title victories in his career (and subsequent defences) haven’t done that. This should be a good rematch at Night Of Champions, but one that I hope (and expect) Sheamus will win.

Rey Mysterio vs Kane – World Heavyweight Championship

Wasn’t a fan of this at all. Not that they put on a bad performance by any stretch, but when you know Undertaker is returning, the match really ended up as an irrelevant sideshow. It was a nice pay off when Kane ended up getting the upper hand on his brother, and Undertaker looked really frail (either the make up department did a fantastic job on him, or married life to Michelle McCool is beginning to take it’s toll).
