BROCK AROUND THE CLOCK
I love when sports/wrestling fans consider the career paths of their heroes and TRY TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR THEM, as if it’s even remotely any of their business and as if they know what it’s like to walk even a step in their shoes.
Case in point: Brock Lesnar.
Lesnar is, by most estimates, a bit nutty. He reportedly hasn’t trained a day since losing his last UFC bout and has been eccentric with the media lately. Hey, don’t knock the Brock. You couldn’t do what he does and not be a little wacky.
Lesnar apparently wants to ditch MMA, at least temporarily, and go back to WWE for a WrestleMania main event against Undertaker. The payoff: $2 million. Lesnar’s biggest payday in UFC: $400,000.
Why would anyone want to fight for real when they can earn more money fake wrestling? This is Lesnar’s career and, more important, his life. Lesnar hasn’t looked quite the same since his battle with diverticulitis. His win over Shane Carwin might have been a last gasp, not a new beginning.
UFC’s Dana White is adamant about Lesnar not working WrestleMania, and I don’t blame him. Lesnar is a valuable asset and, more important, under contract. White’s attitude, I understand.
I don’t understand the attitude of MMA fans that have turned on Lesnar before he’s even left UFC. (You can tell they were waiting for the first excuse). Lesnar coming from fake wrestling didn’t diminish when he accomplished in MMA. Going back to fake wrestling won’t diminish it, either.
Again, it’s HIS LIFE. Brock Lesnar is nobody’s puppet on a string. Lesnar should be respected for who he is and what he does. He’s better at fighting for real than he is at fake wrestling. Ironically, that makes him more valuable in fake wrestling. But even in fake wrestling, Lesnar is no phony.
That’s why Vince McMahon wants to pay him $2 million.
If I’m White, I let Lesnar go work WrestleMania on the condition that McMahon gives him air time to cross-promote Lesnar’s next (and final) UFC fight. Everybody wins. Well, except Lesnar. He jobs to ‘Taker.
