Sin Cara Drafted To Smackdown
Could the high flyer join Mysterio on Friday nights?
Cash: I know the reasons some say Sin Cara needs to go to Smackdown. During his transition to the WWE style, there’s bound to be more errors during his matches and apparently, even his entrances. Being on Smackdown will offer post-editing in those cases. However, I look at this two ways and it all depends on Rey Mysterio, Jr. If there’s a possibility that Mysterio can’t make it another year, then move sin Cara to Smackdown and give the fans the fantasy matchup I believe is inevitable. I think Rey vs Sin Cara has to happen at least once.
I don’t believe it’s time for that yet. If Mysterio has enough gas in the tank to last until next year sometime, I say leave them both where they are. WWE tried to move Rey to Raw in the past, but Smackdown saw a significant drop in the Hispanic market. I don’t see them making that mistake again. Sin Cara is there to fill that void when Mysterio finally does hang up the boots. WWE put a lot of stock into Sin Cara prior to his debut and a few botched spots shouldn’t make them abort so early.
If Sin Cara and Rey aren’t going to square off soon due to Rey’s health, leave the two alone this year.
LaBar: I am convinced Sin Cara (I like to type it rather than pronounce it) is Friday night bound. I explained many of my points on Chair Shot Reality. Chris, you pointed out about Smackdown and the opportunity for post-editing due to it being taped. As I have said before, I feel that is a perk to Cara’s move to Smackdown, but not the sole deciding factor. Sin Cara would have an appeal to the Smackdown audience. Not only for the hispanic demographic that they have targeted dating back to Eddie Guerrero, but also the younger crowd. Sin Cara has an appealing look for the younger audience. The high flying moves with the mask and "super hero" type ora mystery he brings to the screen.
I agree that the Mysterio vs Cara match needs to happen at least once but I don’t see any point to hold off for any unneeded length of time. As soon as you get the two on the same brand and both are healthy, make it happen. The reason being is because you can get some miles out of a series of matches between the two. Rey’s ability to go with someone like Cara may be limited due to his increase of age and health issues. If you try and wait until next years WrestleMania, who knows what Rey’s status will be at that point. There could also be the risk of Sin Cara not being as big of a deal with the WWE audience by next years WrestleMania and the WWE will have missed the chance to cash in on Cara vs Mysterio. On a side note away from the draft, could you imagine if the WWE could ever do a PPV in Mexico City and it featured Cara vs Mysterio!! Media promotion and crowd would be loco!
Paglino: I agree that Sin Cara vs Mysterio needs to happen, and probably sooner rather than later as Rey doesn’t have a ton left in the tank, and that’s the reason why I think WWE made a mistake debuting Cara on Raw. No matter what, because Smackdown is the "B" show, any time a superstar moves to Smackdown it inevitably feels somewhat like a demotion, even if it’s not intended to be one. As a result, WWE should have just debuted Sin Cara on Smackdown so that he didn’t need to be "moved" there at some point.
Having said that, I definitely agree with Justin that Cara is a good fit for the Smackdown brand. It had been reported months before his debut with WWE that the company was interested in bringing him in to replace Mysterio as the "masked Hispanic" on the show, and I still think WWE is trying to market Cara as the next/new Rey Mysterio. Combine that with his high flying ability and it seems like only a matter of time, maybe hours, that we see Sin Cara on Friday nights.
