2011 WWE Draft – Exclusive, In-Depth Analysis, Pt. 1

Nexus vs The Corre
Will WWE’s two major factions be affected by the draft?

Cash: The question is not "Will" Nexus and the Corre be affected this Monday, but "how" will they be?  If they make this solely a draft for individuals and groups don’t count as one (which is what I believe it will be), then it’s nearly impossible to imagine one or both groups making the jump to a different show completely in tact.  I think it’s a matter of what individuals of each group could you realistically see get a push this next year?

Take the obvious three: Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson and Mason Ryan.  I see Barrett returning to Raw.  The "all is equal" thing simply didn’t work with the Corre.  Especially for Barrett, who should have been given a much bigger push on Smackdown than he received.  Zeke could then become a focal point of the Corre, if they even stay together.  I’m not sure Ezekiel as a main event guy – I definitely don’t right now – but with the right training, he could do more at some point.

It also seems like Mayson Ryan is up for some sort of push.  With CM Punk leaving the Nexus (I’ll explain that later), the timing couldn’t be any better.  Ryan will have to get exceptionally better on the mic though or he’ll need to have a mouthpiece remain by his side.  Let McGillicutty take that role.

Regardless of Jackson and Ryan, I see a better upside in Wade Barrett.  Bringing him to Raw will let him get back on path to the top, which I feel Smackdown slowed down in some ways.

LaBar: I agree, its a matter of "how" do these groups get affected. I do think Wade Barrett is going to have a better future after this draft but he will remain on Smackdown. No longer having the tag titles, I would not be surprised if we saw either Slater or Gabriel, or possibly both go over to RAW. I don’t know what that will mean for their future but with them on RAW, it allows Barrett to regain momentum he once had and get in the title picture on Smackdown. Big Zeke could get over easily as a face.

I don’t see any shake up for the Nexus in terms of switching brands. The only shake up I could see coming for Nexus is a Mason Ryan or McGillicutty breaking away from the group but otherwise everyone wearing the black and gold armbands stay on RAW.

Paglino:
Because WWE hasn’t treated The Corre nor The Nexus as anything other than bickering weaklings easily handled by one top baby face, I think the door is WIDE open for either group to be ripped apart following the draft. I’d say guys like McGuillicutty, Slater and Otunga may face the chopping block as none of them seem to "matter" in their respective groups, but that doesn’t mean guys like Zeke and/or Ryan won’t move either as they’re the "muscle" in their groups.

I agree that no matter what, WWE needs to take Wade Barrett more seriously, and honestly I’d rather see the entire Nexus group move to Smackdown to form a supergroup consisting of both Corre and Nexus, and have Wade Barrett break away from the group mentality and be a singles performer on Raw.
