King Of The Iron Ring: Pro Wrestlers & Their Game Of Thrones Counterparts

Faceless Men, Sellswords, Smugglers  & Other Houses

Chris Jericho as Jaqen H’ghar

“Death is certain. Time is not.” The exact same thing can be said for Chris Jericho’s wrestling career. The Alpha, The Ayotollah of Rock ‘N Rolla, the Thrillseeker and the damn Lionheart has had many faces over his squared circle stretch, but the man of 1,004 holds (and faces) just keeps going, keeps re-inventing and keeps showing up where you don’t expect it.

Samoa Joe as Bronn

Nobody on the WWE main roster reads mercenary more than Samoa Joe. The United States Champion doesn’t let outside factors get in the way of his aspirations (making money and winning titles) and nor does the slick talking sellsword Bronn. Neither are the most honorable of individuals, but they are damn good at what they do.

Cesaro as Gendry

Gendry is the low key Superman of Westeros. With royalty flowing through the bastard blacksmith’s veins, Gendry has shown resiliency, work ethic and value despite not always being in the limelight. Oh hold the dragon glass, did I just describe Cesaro?  The Swiss Cyborg may get swung around the card from time to time, but Big Tony is undeniable in the clutch.

Ember Moon as Melisandre

I was all set to saddle the Red Woman with a beautiful baddie (considering she birthes smoke babies and throws leeches on people as a means of witchcraft), but Melisandre had quite the face turn last night in the Battle Of Winterfell. She came through in a big way and Ember Moon has all the potential to do the same in women’s wrestling if given the opportunity.

Tommaso Ciampa as Ramsay Bolton & Johnny Gargano as Theon Greyjoy

Friendly face turned sausage-eating psychopath was Ramsay Bolton’s bag. Act like a buddy than proceed to torture a once trusting individual over a very extended period of time. The once NXT Champion Ciampa sure did that to his pal Johnny Gargano, who had one heck of a time escaping the torment of his fellow DIY dude. Gargano looks to have come out much better than Theon, but as the latest episode has shown, both are “good men.”

Joey Janela as Euron Greyjoy

100% could see Euron rippin’ cigs and rocking moondog shades in the modern world, much like wrestling’s resident “Bad Boy” Joey Janela. Euron is a loose cannon that gives the creeps even to his relatives and that’s lofty feat for even the creepiest of creeps. Janela doesn’t have a creap vibe to him, but loose cannon with a touch of devil-may-care? “Bad Boy” absolutely has that in spades.

Shayna Bayzler as Yara Greyjoy

Speaking of spades and Greyjoys, Shayna Bayzler fits the bill perfectly for Yara Greyjoy. The sister of Theon is the queen of the Iron Islands and Ironborn is a pretty spot-on description for NXT’s resident “Queen Of Spades.”

Randy Orton as Stannis Baratheon

A veteran of this “Game” Stannis Baratheon had the mindset Iron Throne is his destiny. Stannis may not be as outwardly sadistic as Randy Orton, but the dude is one serious stiff and will burn and murder as many family members as it takes to stake claim to a throne that he thinks he’s the rightful heir to. Orton doesn’t quite go to those levels of extreme, but a punt kick or pierced earlobe  twist is his method of madness.

Kenny Omega as Thoros

Omega is somebody special and Thoros was too until he bit the dust beyond The Wall at the end of season 7. Kenny can make anybody he’s in the ring with look just as good as him and that red priest of the Brotherhood without Banners was pretty solid at keeping his boy Beric upright.

Dean Ambrose as Beric Dondarrian

What a wild card of durability Beric has been. The man is like Teflon, quite literally, nothing can keep him down. Same can be said for Dean these past several months. With being on the horizon of a new lease on life (whatever he chooses that to be), Ambrose has done his job all in the name of achieving his goal & Beric certainly has his goals set.

Marty Scurll as Little Finger

A villain through and through Petyr Baelish is all about underhanded tactics to find his way into power, and who knows that better in wrestling than The Villain himself? The ROH roster member middle name may be deceit as he fights his way into supremacy. Scurll has also broken many little fingers so he’s got that going for him too.

Paul Heyman as Varys

Varys is just an advocate! He’s been an advocate for many – maybe one too many, and that could be coming to a head before the Thrones stop gaming.  Heyman has had many guys in his “Dangerous Alliance” and Varys made plenty of them throughout his travels.

Finn Balor as Oberyn Martell

I know what you’re thinking – Martell? Why doesn’t The Model and his “Arrogance” helm this mantle of bad assery? Well first, because this is modern wrestling (mostly) and second, because Finn Balor’s a shoe-in for the Viper, that’s way. The Demon was the underdog in his bout against Brock, but had The Beast on his heels more than any competitor before him, but Balor got caught and that happened to be it for brother from Bray.

Arn Anderson as Davos Seaworth

Quick, smart with the dialogue, and attune to the world around him Davos has made himself quite the adviser and counsel to many. Arn has done that for many over his tenure as road agent and as an in-ring competitor. The only twist in irony is that Davos couldn’t throw up a “Four” in a form of Horsemen comradery.

Kacy Catanazaro as Lyanna Mormont

Talk about a battler,  Lyanna Mormont sure showed a lot of heart in the latest episode and the same is always said for Catanzararo of NXT. She’ll be sure to slay some giants in her travels, no doubt.
