#3.) Hulk Hogan has never lost at SummerSlam
Speaking of Hulk Hogan, he holds another distinct SummerSlam record – being undefeated at the PPV. He has participated in a total of six SummerSlam pay-per-views, of which he main-evented four. The only two times he didn’t go on last were in 1990, when he faced Earthquake, and in 2006 when he defeated Randy Orton.
No other superstar can make the same claim – not with as many matches under their belt anyway.
#2.) The largest-attended SummerSlam event in history
This was not only the largest SummerSlam attendance ever, but at one point, it was one of the two largest WWE attendance figures ever (WrestleMania III is credited by WWE as 93,173 but that figure is heavily disputed.)
1992’s SummerSlam took place in the United Kingdom in the iconic Wembley Stadium. Sold out with 80,300+ people in attendance, it took all but six hours for the tickets to get sold out.
Despite The Ultimate Warrior defending the WWE title against ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage, the main event featured hometown hero The British Bulldog challenge Bret Hart for the Intercontinental Championship. An era where the title was full of prestige, Davey Boy Smith mesmerized 80,000+ people and made them stand on their feet when he pinned Bret Hart using his own move. It was an iconic WWE moment.
#1.) A canceled dream match in 2014
Perhaps one of the biggest dream matches from the Ruthless Aggression Era that was never fulfilled was Batista vs Brock Lesnar. They faced off at OVW, but never when they were big stars. As it is, Batista’s coronation only happened a year after Lesnar left WWE. In 2014, the rumored plan was for Batista to beat Randy Orton in the main event of WrestleMania, with Batista going on to face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam four months later in a dream match.
He likely would have been squashed as well, but the rise of Daniel Bryan naturally changed all those plans – for the better, of course. Still, one has to wonder what could have been.
