Cesaro Should Finally Get His Moment

The next three matches are all contenders to steal the show on Night One. Cesaro will face Seth Rollins in a dream match that pits two elite wrestlers against one another. Cesaro is finally getting his first WrestleMania singles match, a statistic that is simply stunning for the 40-year-old. He’s criminally underutilized, and he’s long overdue for a genuine run atop the card. This match could kickstart his rise to the next level, and Rollins is the perfect opponent to take him there.

Rollins is easily at the point in his career where he can afford to lose these major matches, but a loss for Cesaro would crush his momentum. Either way, the match will be a remarkable showcase of skillful wrestling, but a victory for Cesaro is a WrestleMania moment in the making.

As for the main events, one of them will rightfully open the show. Drew McIntyre deserves the chance to get what should be a thunderous ovation to open the show. He carried the WWE Championship throughout the bulk of the pandemic era. The fans will likely shower him with cheers, even before he gets the WrestleMania moment that he was deprived of last year. A McIntyre victory isn’t a lock, but it’s almost certain.

Bobby Lashley has quickly lost steam, through no fault of his own, as WWE has somewhat presented him as a cowardly champion in the last few weeks. Pairing him with King Corbin certainly didn’t help. Neither did breaking up the Hurt Business. What could have been an “All Mighty” reign as the WWE Champion has turned into a forgettable run that seems like it’s just filling time before McIntyre’s triumph. Thankfully, these two warriors ooze star power, so they should be able to overcome this lackluster booking. But it’s still hard to look at this match without thinking about what could have been.

What is there to say about Banks vs. Belair that hasn’t been said already? Before the bell rings, it can already be called a historic match. The contest is filled with cultural significance. In some ways, it feels even more special than the remarkable main event match at WWE WrestleMania 35, where Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair blazed a new trail. Banks and Belair are two of the most brilliant characters in WWE today; whatever “it” is, they have it. Giving these two performers the main event spot was the right call, and they will absolutely deliver a WrestleMania-worthy finale.
