At long last. After multiple failed attempts, after multiple heartbreaks and after multiple times of coming just short, Johnny Gargano finally finds himself in possession of the NXT Championship. While we may not see it now, this may have been the greatest culmination of a championship win in NXT history.
Would it have been better had he beaten Tommaso Ciampa? Of course. But Adam Cole proved to be more than a worthy opponent, and their fast-paced style absolutely stole the show in an enthralling encounter. Gargano will not only find himself being called the greatest performer in Takeover history, but he now finally has “NXT Champion” next to his name.
And love him or hate him, that final shot of Ciampa embracing Gargano was nothing short of touching.
