By WrestleMania in 2002, the invasion angle had been over for months and RVD had turned face. It was a good role for him because he was simply that exciting and fans loved to watch him. He would then go on to challenge then-Intercontinental Champion William Regal in the opening bout at WrestleMania.
You can’t really go wrong with RVD in a WrestleMania opener, and the match was very well done. It was quick, relatively short and action-packed. RVD hitting the Five-Star Frog Splash in front of 68,000 people made the moment even more special and he had his first-ever WrestleMania moment.
