With all the other top stars and teams in NXT busy laying havoc against each other, Drew McIntyre found himself as the NXT Champion without a challenger! Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas would become his next challenger, and fans assumed that Almas was just a “filler feud” for McIntyre, who would end up winning.
At WarGames, McIntyre walked out wearing the Scottish Kilt, looking like a true warrior. Almas too made an impressive entrance with Zelina Vega. The match was absolutely fantastic and Zelina Vega tried to use underhanded tactics when the referee was distracted to give Almas the advantage. Eventually, it paid off as Almas hit McIntyre with a devastating top-turnbuckle DDT that sent the latter’s skull crashing to the ground.
Almas won the NXT Championship in an incredible change of career trajectory. It was the start of big things for the young Mexican star.
