#5. #DIY vs Authors Of Pain – NXT Takeover: Chicago 2017
For the first time ever, it was a tag team match that was in the main event of an NXT Takeover. It was a high stakes ladder match for the NXT Tag Team Championships. For the past four months, AoP had DIY’s number, having already dethroned them to win the tag team titles.
The young upstart Authors of Pain proved to be a dominant force and Gargano and Ciampa felt this first hand. Gargano would take a ladder to the face to save Ciampa, while the Psycho Killer ruptured his ACL during the match and continued anyway. It was a huge display of guts despite the loss and what happened post-match would change the NXT landscape forever.
Ciampa threw Gargano into the LED board and viciously assaulted him. He sat on the announce table looking on at Gargano being stretchered away. It was at that moment that he became the biggest heel in all of wrestling.
