Shane Douglas recently appeared on The Two Man Powertrip of Wrestling podcast and reminisced about Nicholas‘ WrestleMania 34 WWE RAW Tag Team Championship victory with teammate Braun Strowman. Douglas then compared the decision to Vince Russo and his infamous decision to make David Arquette WCW Champion.
“My understanding from what the guys in my entourage were saying is that the audience kind of died after that Nicholas match and you could kind of feel the energy leave the room. We’ve heard for eighteen years that Vince Russo was the worst thing in wrestling because he put the belt on David Arquette. As much as I disagree with that decision that was better than putting the belt on a ten year old kid. My thought was what about Cesaro and Sheamus? They’ve got to go out and do a job for a guy with a ten year old sidekick. Vince Russo has been vilified for the David Arquette thing for eighteen years and now we have this. To me that is more plausible than having a ten year old kid coming out of the audience and winning the world tag team titles. After eighteen years of vilification now we have this.”
