News on How Hulk Hogan Could End Up Making Even More Money Off Gawker
Even though Hulk Hogan was awarded $115 million in damages when he won his case against Gawker yesterday, The Hulkster could end up getting more money out of the case, as the jury will meet on Monday morning to decide whether or not Hogan should be awarded any punitive damages.
Punitive damages are intended to reform or deter the defendant from engaging in conduct similar to that which formed the basis of the lawsuit. Punitive damages are not necessarily intended to compensate the plaintiff, in this case Hogan, but he could be awarded some portion of the punitive damages of the jury feels the compensatory damages were inadequate.
As noted, Gawker is in the process of appealing yesterday’s decision, but did have to pay a $50 million bond fee.
